Q:
What is the difference between eMan and eManWeb?
The difference between eMan and eManWeb is where it is hosted, how it is purchased, and who manages the administration. eMan is hosted at the customers site, purchased one-time, and managed by the technical librarian. eManWeb is hosted at the eManWeb data center, billed monthly, and managed by the eManWeb administrator under the direction of the customer representative or technical librarian.
Q:
Do I buy my subscriptions from eMan?
No. You must continue to maintain a single-copy of each OEM maintenance library subscription. All content must be used in accordance with OEM guidelines.
Q:
Do I have to buy extra copies or additional users for eMan?
No. The eMan license is sold according to concurrent users. Starting at 25 users, eMan licenses can be added in convenient 5-packs.
Q:
What do I do with my extra/duplicate subscriptions?
We suggest you keep the duplicate subscription with the most amount of time remaining and simply allow the remaining subscriptions to expire.
Q:
Who manages my subscriptions on eMan/eManWeb?
Subscriptions remain the responsibility of the customer in all cases. An active OEM subscription is required for all models
Q:
How do my subscriptions get on to eMan?
When eMan is initially installed at the customer location, eMan engineers install OEM applications and individual maintenance manuals as part of the installation and training. Additional subscriptions may be added by the Technical Librarian and if assistance is needed, simply call eMan Help Desk. Assistance is available during normal business hours.
Q:
How do my subscriptions get on to eManWeb?
When eManWeb is initially installed at the eManWeb Data Center, eManWeb Administrators receive original OEM applications and subscriptions from the customer via the FTP process or via Fed-EX if a CD or DVD is shipped. The data is uploaded to the eManWeb server.
Q:
How does my data get revised on eMan and eManWeb?
Data is revised on eMan by the Technical Librarian using the Admin. tool. Data is sent to eManWeb and the eManWeb administrators revise data as directed by the customer.
Q:
What do I do with my TR’s and SB’s?
This information can be associated or “attached” to corresponding maintenance manuals. Depending on what version of the eMan solution you are using, either the Technical Librarian or eManWeb administrator will coordinate the placement of this data. This process is fully-explained during the training.
Q:
Can I restrict access to certain documents or applications?
Yes, both versions of the eMan solution contain user tools that enable data to be restricted based on specific user-name.
Q:
How many people can have access to my data?
Depending on what type of eMan solution and size license you purchase, access can be limited to one user or an unlimited number of users. This number depends on what you purchase.
Q:
How long do I have to wait for documents to download?
One of the main features of the eMan solution is that there is no downloading required before you can view a document. With eMan or eManWeb, the document opens and is immediately available to view.
Q:
How do I know I am using the most current version of a manual?
We can’t guarantee you are viewing the most current version, but we can place the revision date and last-checked date in easy-to-find locations throughout the eMan interface. The responsibility for currency and all content rests solely on the customer in every instance. AviIT assumes no responsibility for the currency of content.
Q:
How does eMan automate my “Read and Initial” program?
The eMan solution contains tools which require a user to manually acknowledge reading attached information before they can proceed to the manual or document they are trying to access. This acknowledgement is electronically captured and can take the place of manual read and initial programs.
Q:
Can I print from eMan?
Yes. If you have printer access, you can print from the eMan solution. Check with your administrator to verify your printing rights and restrictions.
Q:
Can I print with a watermark?
The eMan solution does not modify any of the content accessed by a user. A watermark, header, footer, etc. is not generated by eMan. Contact your administrator to determine your options.
Q:
What kind of connection speed do I need for to access eMan?
Currently, we recommend a minimum 56K modem speed or higher to benefit from the eMan solution. Speeds slower than 56K may result in a system time-out. It is increasingly rare to encounter speeds less than 56K, even with smart phones tethered to your laptop.
Q:
What do I do where there is no Internet connection?
This is the most commonly asked question we face. First, any cellular phone with tethering capabilities can be connected to a laptop and the cellular connection can connect to eMan or eManWeb if configured properly.
If you think you are headed to a remote location without a cell phone or internet access, we suggest you bring a copy of the maintenance manual on CD. This is always allowed and in accordance with OEM restrictions.
Q:
May I use eMan for other documents besides Maintenance? i.e. Flight Ops, HR, etc.?
Yes. Any electronic file including OEM applications, ERP programs, Office applications, Adobe files, Spreadsheets, word documents, etc. can all be made available on the eMan solution.
Q:
May I make changes to electronic files stored on eMan?
Yes, if the document is editable, you can make changes and save on eMan.
